As we transition into fall, we’re seeing clients gravitate toward hair that feels polished but still easy to live with. Think rich, dimensional color, healthy shine, soft layers and cuts that work with your everyday routine.
One of the things we love about this year’s fall hair trends is that you do not need a dramatic transformation to make your hair feel completely different. Sometimes a little more warmth, a fresh gloss, a few face-framing layers or a change in shape is all it takes.
At Rhimix Salon & Spa in Wooster, Ohio, our stylists can help you take inspiration from the trends and make them work for your natural color, hair texture, current condition and, just as importantly, how much maintenance you realistically want between appointments.
If you are ready for a seasonal refresh, here are a few of the cuts, colors and low-maintenance options we’re loving for fall.
Fall 2026 Haircuts We’re Loving
Many of this fall’s haircut trends are focused on movement and shape without making your morning routine more complicated. The goal is not just a cut that looks great when you leave the salon. It should still work for you on a Tuesday morning when you have somewhere to be.
Soft, Face-Framing Layers
Face-framing layers are a great way to create movement and shape without losing much overall length. They can soften the look around your face, give straight or wavy hair more movement and make an existing haircut feel fresh again without committing to a big chop. Longer layers are also a nice option if you still want to be able to pull your hair back into a ponytail or bun.
The Soft Lob and Bob
Bobs and long bobs continue to be popular, but this fall they are feeling a little softer and more wearable.
A lob can be a great option if you want:
- a noticeable change without going extremely short
- healthier-looking ends
- less hair to manage and style
- a cut that works straight, wavy or with natural texture
The fun part is that a lob does not have to look the same on everyone. Your stylist can adjust the length, layering and shape to work with your texture, face shape and how much time you actually want to spend styling it at home.
Curtain Bangs and Soft Fringe
If you are ready for a change but not a big change, curtain bangs or a soft fringe can completely reshape a haircut without taking away much length. They pair well with layered cuts and tend to offer more flexibility as they grow than a shorter, blunt bang.
That said, bangs do require a little styling and maintenance. If your mornings are already busy enough, talk with your stylist about what kind of fringe will realistically work for you before making the cut.
What Hair Colors Are Trending for Fall 2026?
Fall hair color does not automatically mean going darker. This year, we’re seeing more interest in adding depth, warmth, shine and dimension in ways that complement the color you already have.
Rich, Dimensional Brunette
Chocolate, espresso, mocha and caramel tones can bring richness back to brunette hair while still keeping plenty of movement and dimension. Rather than using one solid dark shade, strategically placed lighter or warmer tones can help brunette color feel softer and less flat. This can be especially nice after summer if your hair has lightened or warmed up from sun exposure and you want to bring some depth back in.
Warm Blondes
Blonde is not going anywhere just because summer is over. Instead, very bright or cool summer blondes can transition into softer beige, honey or golden tones for fall.
If you love being blonde but want something that feels a little richer for the season, your stylist may recommend adjusting your toner, adding lowlights or changing the placement of your highlights rather than starting over with an entirely new color.
Copper and Auburn
Copper, cinnamon and auburn tones are a natural fit for fall, and there is a lot of room to customize how bold you want to go. Maybe you want a noticeable copper transformation. Maybe you just want a hint of warmth added to your existing brunette. Your starting color, skin tone and maintenance preferences all play a role in finding the right version for you.
A Simple Fall Refresh: Glosses and Toners
Sometimes someone sits down in the chair and says, “I still like my color. It just feels a little blah.”
That is where a gloss or toner can be such a nice option.
A gloss or toner can refresh the tone of your existing color, add shine and help bring life back to hair that may have faded over the summer. You do not always need a full color appointment to make your hair feel fresh again.
What Is the Best Low-Maintenance Hair Color?
There is no single hair color that is low maintenance for everyone. The best choice depends on your natural color, how different you want the finished result to be and how often you realistically want to come back to the salon.
If you love your hair when it is freshly colored but do not love feeling like you need an appointment every few weeks, tell your stylist that. It can change the way we approach your color from the beginning.
| If you want… | Ask your stylist about… |
| Blonde with a softer grow-out | Lived-in blonde or balayage |
| More depth without dramatically changing your brunette color | Dimensional brunette |
| Less contrast as your roots grow | A root melt or root shadow |
| More shine or refreshed tone | A gloss or toner |
| A subtle seasonal update | Face-framing color or a tonal adjustment |
These options can often create a softer grow-out than high-contrast color, but your maintenance schedule will still depend on your starting point and desired result. A beautiful color should work with your routine, not create another thing you have to keep up with.
How Can You Transition Summer Hair Into Fall?
You do not always need a completely new cut or color to make your hair feel refreshed for fall. Summer sun, heat styling, chlorine and everyday wear can leave hair looking faded or feeling dry by the end of the season. If your hair is still feeling the effects of summer, our Summer Hair Care Guide includes tips for protecting color and restoring moisture after sun and chlorine exposure.
For some clients, a fall refresh may be as simple as:
- trimming dry or damaged ends
- adding warmth or depth back into faded color
- refreshing blonde with a toner or gloss
- adding face-framing layers
- incorporating lowlights into an existing blonde
- choosing color placement that will grow out more naturally
If dryness or buildup is part of the problem, your scalp may need a little attention too. Our guide to resetting your scalp and hair for fall shares more about seasonal scalp care and creating a healthier foundation for your hair.
How Often Should You Refresh Your Haircut?
There is no perfect haircut schedule that works for everyone. How often you need a trim depends on your length, texture, haircut and whether you are trying to maintain a specific shape or grow your hair longer.
Shorter or more structured styles usually need a little more regular maintenance, while longer cuts may allow you to go longer between appointments.
Your stylist can help you decide what makes sense based on the cut you choose and how you like it to look as it grows.
What Makes Aveda Hair Color Different?
Rhimix is an Aveda salon, and our stylists use Aveda professional hair color to create customized shades for each guest. Aveda describes its professional color as 100% vegan treatment hair color made with 96% naturally derived ingredients on average.
But one of the things we appreciate most from a stylist perspective is the ability to customize.
You are not simply choosing one color from a box. Your stylist can adjust pigments and tones based on your starting color, the condition of your hair and the result you want.
That is especially helpful when you are making a seasonal change. Maybe you need more warmth. Maybe you want more depth around the root. Maybe you want brightness around your face without creating a high-maintenance grow-out. We want to create the version that works for you.
What Should You Ask for at Your Fall Hair Appointment?
You do not need to walk into Rhimix knowing whether you need a root melt, lived-in blonde, gloss, lob or dimensional brunette. That is our job.
Instead, tell your stylist:
- what you love about your current hair
- what is not working for you anymore
- how much time you spend styling it
- how often you want to return for maintenance
- whether you want a subtle refresh or a noticeable change
- what you want your hair to look like as it grows out
Photos are always welcome too. They are a great starting point for the conversation, and your stylist can help explain how a particular look may translate to your hair texture, current color and maintenance preferences.
