1. What is the best heat setting for my tool to not damage my hair?

Around 365 degrees Fahrenheit is the “ideal” temperature to put your hot tool on. The reason: the higher the heat, the more it will blow out the cuticle layer of your hair – meaning your curls will not last as long. Another easy way to protect your hair from heat or damage is to ALWAYS use a heat protectant like Aveda heat relief™ thermal protector & conditioning mist. You can also sleep on a satin pillowcase and use a poly-fiber towel to dry hair with. These items aid to protect the hair and keep the cuticle smooth.

2. Should you come to the salon for your service with wet or dry hair? Should it be clean or dirty?

You should wash your hair 24-48 hours before your appointment. A small amount of natural oils is good when getting your hair done, but hair that is too dirty might not take the color as well. Your hair should always be dry for your appointment. When coloring, hair moisture can affect the final result, so dry hair is always best and will save time on your appointment. Also, hair that is well taken care of is much easier to color, cut, and style. Using quality products truly can make or break the health of your hair. 3. How much should I tip my stylist or service provider?

This is a question that everyone wonders about and yet no one wants to ask because it’s awkward! The average is 20% and that is a great place to start. If you have been with your stylist or service provider for a while, built a relationship, or really love their work- tipping more is not uncommon and is always appreciated. Prices for services offered typically cover the time and cost of products used.

4. How often should I get a service done?

Hair services depend on your hair, its condition, and what you are having done. Generally, the rule is at least 4 times a year for a haircut, but most people will do 6-8 weeks between. Men are even more frequent with 2-4 weeks between cuts.
For color services, the average is 4-6 weeks.

Massages average every 4-6 weeks unless you have an issue or area your therapist is working on, and then it can be once a week.

Facials are every 3-4 weeks or once a month. That is how long your skin’s life cycle is. After 3-4 weeks your skin cells grow back. Facials help this process and assure your skin always is glowing and healthy.
